- Månadens historiens-vingslag-composer… Tamás Ungváry. En legend hos EMS som fungerat som mentor och inspiratör åt en hel generation EMS-tonsättare. Denna gång berättar han om den kreativt turbulenta epok på EMS där allt elektronljudande åstadkoms på PDP och VAX-datorer med hjälp av FORTRAN som programspråk.
- Novembermysteriet med Göran Svenssons brödrost i glasmontern i EMS entré… Varför har en brödrost förärats plats just där? VEMS medlemmar uppmanas att hjälpa till att skingra dimmorna.
- Iannix-febern växer lavinartat i VEMS-communityn… VEMS-medlemmar visar upp sina Iannixprojekt: Iannix kopplat till Supercollider, Max och PD. Den grafiska sequencern IanniX kommunicerar med andra ljudprogram via t.ex. OSC (Open Sound Control) eller MIDI. IanniX är gratis och finns för Linux, MacOS och Windows.

Om Tamás Ungváry:
Born 1936 in Hungary. His music carrier started when he became a member of the Hungarian State Symphonie Orchestra (1957-67). Conducting studies with Dean Dixon, Albert Simon and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria) with G. Wimberger 1964-1969. Conductor of the Hungarian Youth Orchestra and freelance conductor. In 1969 he moved to Stockholm where he continued to conduct and in 1972 started also to compose. Between 1975 and 1992 he has been on the staff of ”Stiftelsen Electro-Acoustic Music in Sweden” (EMS) as composer in residence, studio assistant, lecturer and software manager. During this period he created numerous interactive real-time software packages for composition.
Ungváry has devoted himself almost entirely to computerised composition and has often realised works using softwares of his own. His composition has been presented at the ISCM ”World Music Days”: 1972 (”Seul”), -73 (”Basic Barrier”), -75 (”Traum des Einsamen”), -85 (”L’Aube des Flammes”), -95 (”Grattis”). He won First Prize at the international NEWCOMP competition for computer music in Boston 1987 ”(Gipsy childrens….”) and has also been awarded at the Int. Competition of Electro-Acoustic Music in Bourges (France) and at ”Ars Electronica” 1994 (Linz-Austria). His works have been presented all over the world including festivals as Warsawa Automn, Biennale in Zagreb, Wien Modern, Inventionen (Berlin), Nordic Music Days, etc. Ungváry was guest of the DAAD ”Berliner Künstler program” 1989.
Apart from beeing a composer, he has been active as artistic manager of the ”Institute for Electro-Acoustic Music in Sweden” until 1993. Ungváry founded (1987) and led the Kineto Auditory Communication Research (KACOR) Group at the ”Dept. of Speech, Music and Hearing”, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm untill 2002. He has also been leader of the courses of ”Computer Music and Electronic Media ” at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Wien between 1991 and 2001. His essays and articles has been published in ”Leonardo”, in the Proceedings of scientific congresses and in various books. The President of the Republic of Austria has honored him with the title ”Professor” in 1996.
